My brother suspects they know the game is afoot and purposely "forget" things in order to get their hands on a loonie or two.

He is okay with that. He is a nice guy on top of everything else. If my children did that, they would be abandoned at the airport terminal like Tom Hank in the classic movie, Abandoned At The Airport. Re: Children and Wonderful Things Post by chicpea » Sun Apr 18, pm Speaking of children, today on my way to buy smokes and just after almost getting into a physical altercation with three very lippy teens eating quesadillas, I saw a young mom on robson street pusing a double pram.

She was wearing a black Whitesnake tee-shirt, which I found evocative and have been humming Slide It In since then. What would you do in the following scenario? You and your partner are expecting your first child. Everything, blessed be God, has gone as smooth as a dollop of the finest sour cream. Your baby is born without too much pain to the mother and everyone is safe and healthy. However, there is one issue: He has no knob. If those very same parents had chosen to not have additional children, is that not the same decision as to kill their future offspring?

Nay, worse. A person killed at least got to exist and experience existence for however long they had. It is the most complete and utter destruction. Based on a whim! A decision that could easily have been otherwise. Think of your own experience. It is a completely unique view. Nowhere else in existence has there been, or will there ever be, another universe quite like the one viewed and experienced and even created by you and your mind.

Those parents would absolutely and truthfully be destroyers of worlds. Is it our moral duty, chic pois, to have as many babies as possible? I believe the correct answer to this question resides in having babies based on an algorithm that maximizes the quantity and quality of experiences for all currently living also worlds onto their own and future worlds unborn babies.

The correct algorithm will give due weight to both quantity and quality, neither optimizing solely for one over the other. Given the unpredictable nature of development, I advocate for a significant overweight to quantity while still keeping quality in sight. A quantity to quality preponderance built into the core of the algorithm seems reasonable to me with minimum quality thresholds built in that would override the pre-fixed ratio if triggered.

Would you agree? What is the correct universal baby making algorithm in your estimate, chic pois? This is not the time for you to go boutique shopping on RateMyGP. These are the kinds of things parents deal with both in their dreams and in their daily lives. It is horrid but a fact is a fact. At the cost of two young lives! How is that conscionable? Dog wrote: Nay, worse Dog wrote: It is the most complete and utter destruction. X does not equal Y in all regards, but there is overlap in certain of their characteristics such as they both destroy worlds.

It is in their overlaps that I compare them. But even then, the comparason is not a necessary element it is more illustrative than anything else. The wanton destruction of worlds can be judged on its own. That sounds like the kind of crazy thing Big numbered D would say in his libertarian madness. First of all, causing harm is inevitable.

It will often be a question of choosing to cause the lesser of harms. Second of all, deliberately causing harm when it can otherwise be avoided will sometimes be desirable such as in the proverbial killing of baby Hitler or the foreign policy doctrine of bombing to save lives. Turd and final of all, I vehemently contest that no proactive duty is owed to your fellow humens.

We are not solitary savages that only signed a non-aggression pact. The more the benefit to others compared to the cost to self is great, the greater the duty. With certain caveats to ensure contributions and cooperation is mutual. Regarding the knob and testes question.

I agree with your last proposal. Please sign me up. Have you stumbled on to a new way to cheat death?
